Windows Easy Transfer Companion (WETC) enables users to transfer actual applications from their Windows XP PC to a new Windows Vista PC. It is not a superset and does not replace Windows Easy Transfer, but rather it is an independent, complementary piece of software.  Windows Easy Transfer Companion is freely available as a download, but is currently only available for US-English. Visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=77831&clcid=0x409 for the latest information on Windows Easy Transfer Companion.

  11. 1. Install WETC on both your Windows XP and Windows Vista PCs.
  12. 2. Connect both computers via an Easy Transfer Cable or network.
  13. 3. First run WETC on your XP PC and then run on your Vista PC.
  14. 4. Follow on-screen instructions to transfer programs.

  19. ò Two  physical PCs. The old PC must be running Windows XP SP2 and the new PC must be running Windows Vista û both in U.S. English.
  20. ò Both PCs must be connected via an Easy Transfer Cable or LAN.
  21. ò X86 to X86 transfers only.
  22. ò At least 200MB of free disk space.
  23. ò Must be run as a user with Administrator rights.

  26. What does WETC transfer?
  27. ------------------------
  28. Windows Easy Transfer Companion specifically transfers installed programs from one PC to another. It does not transfer files, settings, and/or user profiles as these are transferred by Windows Easy Transfer (available as a feature of Windows Vista).

  33. 1. Run an antivirus tool on both PCs before performing the transfer (recommended).
  34. 2. If using a laptop, plug in the power source before performing the migration to avoid a potential loss of power in the middle of a transfer.
  35. 3. Make sure programs you select to transfer are working properly prior to transfer.
  36. 4. Configure the drives on your new computer so that they match the configuration of the old computer.
  37. 5. After you have completed your program transfer and your new computer restarts, allow WETC enough time to perform the post-transfer steps before you begin using your new computer.

  40. Known Limitations
  41. -----------------
  42. 1. The Easy Transfer Cable must be plugged directly into each PC. Using a USB hub is not fully supported at this time.
  43. 2. WETC does not support transfers between two hard drives on the same PC.
  44. 3. WETC does not support dual boot environments.
  45. 4. WETC does not transfer Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1. If your programs require this, please install it on the new PC prior to transfer.
